In 1991 the Centrale Bank van Suriname issued a series in which the front of every note shows the bank’s building in Paramaribo and the back a scene from the country’s economic or public life. On the 10-guilder note the theme is bananas: bunches of fruit on the front and the harvest on the back.
The backs of all denominations also feature a toucan. The notes were printed with various dates up to the late 1990s; this example was issued in 1991.
The series was one of the last for the Surinamese guilder: the final bird issue came out in 2000, and on 1 January 2004 the Surinamese dollar replaced the guilder at 1,000 guilders to the dollar.
The note fits a thematic set on agriculture, here banana plantations on world money, the toucan on the back adds it to a bird collection, and for a Suriname collection it belongs to one of the last guilder series. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
